Sriganesh Lokanathan is Team Leader – Big Data Research at LIRNEasia, where he co-established LIRNEasia‘s multi-disciplinary research on generating insights for developmental policy using big data. He also currently serves on Government of Sri Lanka’s expert committee advising on the development of the Western Region Megapolis Plan. He was the key author on the chapter on “The role of big data for ICT monitoring and for development” in ITU’s 2014 Measuring the Information Society report. He has been invited to speak on the subject in multiple international forums and written widely including in India’s Economics & Political Weekly. He previously led LIRNEasia’s research on the role of ICTs in rural development, and has expertise in broader telecommunications and ICT policy and regulation.
He holds a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy of the National University of Singapore.
